Some people might think that this makes Gilgamesh funny, but this couldn’t be further from the truth. Most of Final Fantasy 5’s best parts happen when this character is involved, and every fight against him is a nail-biter. Watching him fight back against his cruel boss is one of the most satisfying parts of the whole game, and it solidifies Gilgamesh’s status as the best character.
An Amazing Job System
Final Fantasy 5’s job system is really one of a kind. Players start out as pretty simple characters, but once they save the Crystals, they can use a wide range of powerful and unique jobs to help their party. These jobs range from the common Black Mage to the unique Mime. If players know what they’re doing, the Mime is one of the best jobs in Final Fantasy.
This job system is by far and away the best part of the game. No other Final Fantasy game has even come close to making a job system as flexible and fun as this one. Even though Final Fantasy 10-2 tried to copy this game’s success, it still doesn’t come close to the freedom this game gives you.
Unwavering Focus On Gameplay
Most people think of Final Fantasy games as having amazing stories with big plot turns that make them care a lot. Fans love games like Final Fantasy 7 and 10 because they have great stories that players still remember today. So, it’s easy to see why many people were upset when they first found out that Final Fantasy 5’s story isn’t anything special, but this isn’t always a bad thing.
Many fans of the game think that the story was put in the background on purpose so that the job system could be made better. Along with this, the game improved its gameplay in a number of ways, which led to changes to the way it fights. Even though later games in the series did improve the gameplay quite a bit, no other major Final Fantasy game has ever focused solely on the gameplay and succeeded.
A No-Nonsense Antagonist
When people talk about the best bad guys in Final Fantasy history, names like Sephiroth and Kefka come to mind. Both of these characters are completely insane and go out of their way to make everyone else’s lives hard. Their bad deeds even threaten the survival of the world itself. But there’s no denying that these bad guys get a lot of time in the spotlight, and it’s hard not to know their backstories and why they’re so blatantly evil to begin with.
Exdeath, on the other hand, is a very evil being that came from an evil-sealing tree. It is hell-bent on getting the power of the Crystals and destroying the world. Not much needs to be known about this figure, but whenever he shows up, he always steals the show. There is no pity for this character, and players will hate him deeply when he constantly insults Gilgamesh and kills Galuf without a care in the world.
An Emphasis On Comedy
At this point, it’s pretty clear that Final Fantasy 5 put the story on the back burner in order to put more attention on other parts of Drive Mad game. But that doesn’t mean they skimped on the writing at all. In fact, many of the best parts of Final Fantasy 5 are funny and memorable in their own right.
Even though the story is serious, like most Final Fantasy games, the game doesn’t shy away from having a lighter tone, a lot of fun, and being a joyride in every way. Even though there are funny parts in other games, none of them do it as shamelessly as Final Fantasy 5.
